I have matching braces for all three of my tanks, which , due to some well earned weight loss now fit rather loosely, despite by belt. I too an fairly straight with my waist and hip measuremtnet identical so stuff tends to slide a bit off the beergut. I bought mine customed from kiltstore for each tartan---not cheap but not exactly outrageously expensive either, and they look good with dress clothes. A little funky looking with casual stuff though.
Be careful with the clamp type because some of the teeth on the clips can pull threads out of your tartan if not seated well on the fabric.
Had the guy at our local kilt rental shop actually offer to install buttons on my tanks to allow me to use the standard button type braces, but not sure if I can modify my custom tartan braces to button style from their current clip style. Will work on it and let you know.

So, how are the buttons attached? Are they sewn directly through the fell? Wouldn't that look unsightly from the outside? On the other hand, sewing through the lining would seem to tend to pull the lining and not support the weight of the kilt.

Ummm, suspenders?? Nope not for me...
They really wore braces on the kilt? It looks so funny in my mind, I can't picture it.

I've seen a few wear braces, though if odd at the time. But it makes scents with a
waist coat or sweater. Don't see them with Belt & shirt though?

For those who have a clip style suspenders could you sew a tab on the inside of the kilt to clip on to? This would be like having a button on the inside.
I also have some convertible suspenders the clips can be replace with a strip of leather with a button hole on each end. This slips through the end of the suspenders and button to the kilt.
Thanks for the link Cacunn. Unfortunately the hidden tailors belt only comes up to size 43 inch waist---some of us clydesdales are a wee bit stouter than that. May have to try the no-slip rug pad technique if I can figure out how to make it work without compromising the integrity of my tanks.

I was thinking about the hidden tailor belt as well for this problem. Didn't know where to get them though.
We have a couple of solutions here.

Well well,it just goes to show that you, well me anyway, are never too old to learn.I did not know that braces were worn with the kilt in days gone by.In certain circumstances, it made sense then and it still does now.
