With the deer in the headlights look, I just say "Can I help you?" if it's a negative look, but usually I just ignore them. Sometimes, if I'm in that kind of mood, I'll put on the most glazed over look and stare right back at them, mouth hanging open. Most times it isn't negative, it's curiosity, so I don't mind. When they start pointing and snickering is when I get the snappy comebacks ready.

You can always go Martin Lawrence on them and quickly touch your nose and swipe, turn your head real quick and then look at them while swiping your nose and asking 'what, do I have a booger?'

I took the advise from the gentleman that sponsored me into our local St. Andrew Society and who also helped me purchase my "kilt kit" several years back.

He said just look them in the eye and say nothing when a man makes an unwise remark about the kilt.

He was a Marine sniper in Vietnam.

The only time i remember getting a look like the cats,i had just told my wife i ordered another kilt.

I had a wize guy clerk in a convience store ask me if i reached into the wrong side of the closet today.
I told him no,my wife keeps all of her pants on her side.

That's funny, good response to the clerk too. I can so imagine that look.
