I might be prejudiced here, but in the south there are times that you wear an undershirt under EVERYTHING including other tshirts trying to stay dry.
From my vantage point, shirt works well with the tartan and you should not worry about it...
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

I suspect that is the design of the shirt.
The shirt and kilt look fine to me. I say for casual, if you like it, wear it.

Personally I think it looks great. No worries from what I can see.

I think it looks fine the main colour being the blue ties in nicely with the Leatherneck Tartan and you wear it well.

I like seeing a polo shirt with a kilt, and the color looks good from here. As for the undershirt hanging below the sleeves.....it looks like your slip is showing. The white around the neck looks just fine. I just have a problem with the white hanging down.

Well I can see nothing wrong with that, looks good to me.
What flashes if any have you decided to go with?

The undershirt is part of the polo; just extra sleeves and neck line. Thanks for the comments.

I can't say I agree with that. Bob Martin discusses "toning" patterned shirts with tartan in his book All About Your Kilt.
Matt Newsome, for example, has a picture of himself wearing a window-paine shirt from L.L. Bean with his Carolina tartan kilt, and it looks very "country-gent".
So don't automatically discount patterns -- stripes may be a bit much, of course.
