I'm 6' tall and prefer a 2" belt - 2.25" for dressier occasions with a plate buckle. I find even the 2" belt to bother my short ribs by the end of the day (I sit a lot).

Sounds like CavScout is spot on: proportion is the key. At 6'6" and 215 lbs. I would/could wear a different width belt than shorter guys, and vice versa. So often it comes back to the simple principle-- what looks right.

Dr Mac and I hae the height, (but he beats me in weight) and so I need a wider belt for proportion sake. Anything less than 2" looks skimpy I agree CavScout completely.

Here's another eBay find. "Almost" 2 inches wide.

Now that I look closer I realize it's from the same seller as the other one!

I don't think it's the size of the man as much as the size of the kilt. I wear a kilt belt from SWK (I think it's 3" but I could be off) with all my kilts, but I have worn a typical 1.5" or whatever belt with my sportkilt. It only looks odd because it's so much smaller than the belt loops. If I were to try that with my other kilts which are all 24" or so, it would just look wrong.
Earlier this year I got a friend to wear one of my kilts for a few hours, but since I only had one kilt belt, and it needs a few days for the leather to accept an adjustment, he had to wear a regular belt. A smaller kilt might have been able to pull it off, particularly if it had the appropriate belt loops, but in this case, well you be the judge:

Hm, I'm thinking it's going to be at least 2".

I'm 5'7" (and shrinking) and I wear a two and a quarter inch belt with my kilt as a matter of course...never even considered anything narrower. It looks terrific, in my opinion, and doesn't seem to bind or to be uncomfortable even when I am bending or sitting.
Especially if you wear your kilt up around your navel, I think the wider belt is the better look.
