I was working in the IT deopartment of New York State Electric And Gas (NYSEG) on 9-11. It was a quiet morning until the first plane hit the World Trade Center. We had TV sets all over our call center that played CNN constantly. At one point or another that day, we all gathered around the T.V.s stunned at what we were watching. NYSEG provides utilities to parts of Manhatten and a lot of downstate NY, so once the towers collapsed all hell broke loose in the center. The power grid board was lit up like a Christmas tree and the call center lines were instantly jammed up. For security reasons the building went on total lockdown. For the entire day no one was allowed to entrer or leave the NYSEG building. As tech support we felt completely helpless to do anything but keep the phone lines and servers up and running for the building. During that day I felt like I was on automatic pilot just doing my job. Once we were allowed to leave the building that night it all hit me and I was pretty much numb. To this day I am in total awe of those who risked or gave their lives to save complete strangers. It really convinced me of the devineness of the human spirit. Today I'm going to the New York State Museum at the Empire State Plaza here in Albany to visit the 9-11 display and memorial there. It's the most extensive 9-11 exhibit in the world that includes sections of the towers, destroyed emergency vehicles and a vast collection of letters and personal effects left at the sight. I know I won't see many dry eyes there today.

I have never forgotten that day, helplessly watching events unfold on the BBC.

I have since talked to people who were near or in the towers or who knew people who were lost in them.

Nor can I forget the powerful emotions of my own visit in March 2005.

People from many nations were victims - it was an attack upon the whole world.

I was at work, when someone came into the office and said one of the towers had been hit.
Sometime later, the data lines to our NY facilities dropped. Sinking feeling in my stomach.
Thankfully, all our people were OK.

I have flown a flag, at my home since 9-12-01, and will do so, indefinitely.

    Peace & prayers to all.

I was back down in Arizona because my Dad had just died five days before. I was already numb because of that loss while I was watching it on TV. Death was already on my mind, so part of me was thinking "wow, more people are mourning now." and part of me was thinking "how dare they do this to me when I'm this sad already". A very strange and surreal time for me.

My thoughts that day, were with my brother (NY Fireman) and nephew (NY Policeman). Both were OK, thank goodness. Both were on the pile by nightfall. Their grim, sobering tasks that day were horrific. Thanks to all who survived to lend aid. Bless all who perished.

    My Reflections

Three days after September 11th, I deployed on Operation Noble Eagle, the military's homeland defense mission. Shortly after that, I deployed on Operation Enduring Freedom the overseas war against terrorism for a little over a year. We opened our initial briefings with photos from the WTC. Needless to say, they motivated us to do our mission.

Initially, when we saluted each other at the beginning of the deployment, we would say, "Let's roll" in honor of the passengers of Flight 93. They were our heroes.

it was evening here, in Saint-Pete, and i was in the gym, and so, relaxed, pleased, my mom and i went out to the car and my dad said - you know, this is awful, and told us what happened. we went home just in time to see the last moments on tv...
i will never forget that feeling of fear. For the first time in my life i felt it when we had events in moscow and volgodonsk, and houses blown up in the night, and we organized the night watch around our house.then i knew how was it - to be really afraid... and that day, Sept 11th, i felt that again.

i won't forget those who died there, and those who survived and hepled others...

Memories of that brought up even older memories, Pearl Harbour. May all the souls of the victims rest in peace.

It isn't just those who were taken it is those who offered themselves up without thought of being taken. It is those who have followed in those footsteps for the last 7 years and in the same footsteps since 1775. That is why we are the greatest nation on earth.
