That looks very nice. I don't think it is technically a tartan but plaid. I still like it.

Are there examples of registered or historical tartans that do not have the same pattern up/down to left/right? I thought I'd seen a mention of that here.

I don't recall seeing that here, but Barbara names some of them in her book on pages 30-31, and probably other places as well.
