And the seller you've posted sells wonderful tartan. You just have to be careful to check the weight. The one you show is fine (13-14 oz). He also sells 16 oz, which is even better. But he does sell some lighter weight tartan (8 oz, 10 oz) that doesn't make as good a kilt and is harder to work with for a beginner. You'd think that lighter and cheaper would be easier for a beginner, but it's actually not.

But this vendor always indicates clearly what the weight is, so it's not hard to tell.

And you can always email me with questions or post questions on XMarks!

Gunnar! I was just at the New Hampshire Highland Games, and a fellow from Reykjavik won the heavy athletics competition!! His name is Stefan Petersson (at least I think that's right). Very big guy wearing a very nice blue, red, and white kilt (of course!!!). I don't know what the tartan was - I forgot to ask him.

Sweet!. There are few( probably none when I think of it ) kilties in Iceland. Some people just have a pakistani made junk and claim it's real and often wear it backwards. I don't know of any Icelander that has any interest in kilting or anything of that matter. And you almost got the name right, it's Stefán Sölvi Pétursson

Ah - thanks for clarifying his name! When they announced his name over the loud speaker, I wasn't entirely sure what they'd said. And I thought they'd said that his middle name was "Solveig", but I knew that was a woman's name. Have you met him? Is this him?

This is definitely the man I met: http://www.bb.is/Pages/26?NewsID=118387 and http://www.vaxtarvorur.com/vodvafikn...php?item.414.2

I don't know whether someone in the US lent him a kilt or whether he owns one. But I thought it was pretty cool that it was blue, red, and white.

Yes thats him allright. Yeah I've seen him during some contests here in Iceland. I don't suppose that was his kilt since there are few to none kilties here. But it's pretty cool to have the flag colours in your kilt!
