Looks like a very healthy way to deal with such a loss. Hat's off.

It was a great party. My band was scheduled to play but the guitarist called up half an hour before I was going to leave to tell me she had a seriously bad migraine...so bad that she couldn't see.. So, no band. It was a good thing I brought my practice gear!
Anyway, yeah, Colin that's a pretty skinny caber. LOL...Hey, it was the only thing that was "down" that was anything close to 1.) available without trekking REALLY up the hill..2.) straight enough 3.) even vaguely the right size. It was about 16 feet long, but probably only weighed about 40-45 pounds. In other words, a pretty darned long, but reasonably-weighted competition womens caber.
If Robbin (that's Robbins sister in the pic, actually) whacks two feet off of it and cleans off the ashes and smooths off the little end a bit, she'll have a perfectly good practice caber for next season from that stick.

Fantastic Photo's, my sympathies go out to your friends. But what a great day spent commemorating the event.
Also since i have only been on the boards here for less than a month, it was good to put faces to names here on XMTS.
Panache what a great hat!!!

Never fear my beloved Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess, I saved mine.
I must apologize that I do not know which of George and Gwen's friends wrote this so I cannot give credit where it is due.
Song ( to Amazing Grace) for the Wake of the House
The House of Gwen and George is gone- burned in the fire hot
And we are here to celebrate the clearing of the plot
But more than that we're here to mourn the loss of keepsakes dear
And start to make with friendships sparked more memories full of cheer
So lift your voice and send a WAIL for all that's lost and gone
To clear the air for future joy by singing forth this song
So now we WAIL and WAIL and WAIL we want to do it right
Again we WAIL and WAIL and WAIL hold forth with all our might
Now we are cleared to celebrate the coming of the new
And Gwen and George know clearly now-their friends are far from few.
Cheers
