Hear, Hear!
Good idea for the school to run such an event though. I wonder which other cultures are going to be represented and how many other MUGs are going to be worn?
All the best

I am with Jock 100% on this.
Take care,

On the other hand... If you're dressing as a Lancastrian who happens to be wearing a Kilt... err maybe not.

Nobody wears flat caps over here any more, the odd teenager and golfers but other than that it is strictly the 60+ brigade who refuse to go out without a 3 piece suit and a flat hat

I wear my grandad's flat cap with my (plain black) kilt this side of the pond but it is most definitely a modern look.... plain white or band logo long-sleeve t-shirt, boots, casual sporran etc. kind of post-post-modern, "pop-band" I suppose.
I can imagine that a kilt, jacket and waistcoat and flat cap, all in tweed, could look kind of ferret-in-my-sporran gamekeeper-esque, but, as the others have said, definitely leave the flat cap behind if you are wearing a tartan kilt!

I would think the more "Scottish" outfit would be jeans, a jumper, and a pair of trainers.
I would also say keep it simple.

Well I did think that, at first, but then I thought(a dangerous thing)that my suggestions had better have a kilt theme.

That's the ticket.
* Edit *
I wear flat caps, but not because I think it is part of Scottish attire; more that it is a hat style that I like, and has a flavor of the early nineteen-hundreds America.
And I am responding to this post in part:

Reason: Seemed too confusing.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
