And I completely understand that. And if you (or anyone else) didn't even wish to list their state, I think a regional location (e.g. 'Midwest', 'New England', etc) or country (USA, Canada, Scotland, UK, etc) would suffice.
Just my opinion

I understand Glen. Perhaps a 'friendly recommendation' instead?
If members do, they do. If not, then I guess they don't.

The population of Toronto is never 12 million

I have my location displayed in each post, and other relevant information displayed in my profile. I used to display the other information in my signature, but it didn't help.
Although, I think most non-displayers might be a little more worried about the non-member guests who visit the forum seeing their location information...
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I have been very active on the WWW since 1994. It's very easy to gather info about me, but apparently I'm not very interesting because over those 14 years I've never had an obvious issue of privacy invasion or harassment. I keep my location "general" on forums because I look at and appreciate "types" with a kind of regional/state (and if it's a big state, what part of the state) perspective. I live in Northern California, more specifically in the SF Bay Area. I'm sure most people here from other parts of the country/world have a "hit" about California north and south, the SF Bay Area, LA or San Diego. Each has a flavor. SoCal is very different from NorCal....
Just an incomplete rabble ramble I suppose...

A good suggestion, but sometimes forum members don't look, even when the location is there!!! There were several posts from a member in Iceland recently, where it was obvious from the replies that many had not taken the location into account before responding.

That's true! Some people just are not going to read most of those things.

Well... That's a little different than someone asking for a person's location when they do have it displayed. There are some members who would do that.
