I had no problem at all navigating the Bilt Kilt website, looked over the pictures of the box pleated kilts...thought they were handsome, etc. etc. The contrasting stitching is NOT forgiving of construction errors!!

$200 is not out of the range of possibility for these kilts. I'd pay that and more in an eyeblink for a Freedom Kilt.

I've seen the Built Kilt in real life the last time I was up in Barrie they were just launching them, and while they are not my cuppa, I'm sure some of our more contemporary kilt lovers may really be interested in them. As for Burnett's and Struth being known for their website instead of their kilts, I'm not sure about that, up here anyway they are still known for their kilts, they are a fine kilt maker my Dress MacDonald is from B&S and I could not be happier with it.

A few years ago, I purchased a patrol tunic from B&S, which fits perfectly based on requested measurements. I am still pleased with it. However, if the webby is any indication, this fine company's product line has been cut way back. My patrol tunic and other piper's doublets do not appear to be offered products any longer.

When I can I'll have to go up and see what's up with Burnett's and Struth.

The pleats release above the hip. That's just odd.

After receiving the e-mail reproduced above, I responded and asked about an "inverted inverted" pleat kilt (i.e., turning the "UK-style" into a Kinguisse/Kingussie/Muirhead pleated kilt). The man helping me responded that they'd be happy to do it, for a slight additional charge.

I'm pretty enthusiastic about Bilt Kilts. Burnett's and Struth has a pretty good reputation, seems to me, and the idea of a contemporary kilt maker who also makes, you know, "real kilts", further seems like it could only be a good thing.* Throw in the use of Lochcarron tartans . . . oh, and speaking of that, I'll bet they could be convinced to use sixteen ounce vice thirteen!

    * yes, I am aware of 21st Century Kilts! To say nothing of, say, the Wizard of BC.
