Oh, I rather agree. I argued that Beowulf was the real villain.

Look at the Empire. The places they are not at war with seem to be rather peaceful, and unified. But in the episodes 1-3, you see the world before the Empire was chaotic, the Jedi worked to maintain peace, but planets were at war with each other, and the Jedi had to intervene. The Empire met resistance, but it did bring peace. Was Vader all that different than King Arthur? (Either the historic or the mythical) Different than Caesar? Was he taking to the dark side anywhere near that of Caligula?

I once read in a book that darkness and light are the opposite of as we see them, light is chaos, as it is everything combining and confusing to make white light, but darkness is pure and clean. What if the dark side wasn't really the dark side? It's emotions are pure. Not the jumbles of duty to the light side of the force.

And to keep in in the realm of kilts, at least those robot stealing freaks didn't worry about pants. (Nor did the Romans I referenced earlier. Arthur, eh, hard to say, the romanticized version puts him in the middle ages, with tights or armor. The more historical one lived in a wooden fortress, and I think one of the possible regions for there may have had leggings. Or he could have ran around naked like some of the Roman soldiers, or robes, or who knows..)

You know, Iran (for the moment) is peaceful too, but would you call Ahmadinejad a good guy?

Then again, I love rebels and revolutionaries, so I'm a big fan of the Rebel Alliance in Star Wars.

Star Trek: Voyager. They rebuilt that thing every other weekend. And one character even restored a old shuttle craft, built a new one, and had a holodeck program where he was restoring a 'classic' car.

Ship the size of a city and I swear that I have never seen anybody break a sweat keeping it running. Nobody scraping, nobody painting...what's the deal?

...so we get to see very little of the Starship Enterprise...it's a teaser, right? But we do get to see a guy who's welding and actually is getting dirty. This had me thinking...

And this new movie is a retro take on Kirk and Spock's early years...remember the problem that they said they were going to have with "Star Trek: Enterprise"? How do you convince people that this is advanced future technology when the viewer already has a cell phone that's smaller than Captain Kirk's communicator? "Spock...can you hear me now?"

Suspend disbelief...suspend disbelief...just enjoy the movie....

Lots of places have been peaceful through the reign of some strong man dictator. Cuba has had peace for a long time. The people's standard of living ain't that great though.

The third reich brought peace to millions, but millions more were deemed undesirables.

All a matter of point of view. Dividing the world into a dualistic view of good/bad or right/wrong, us/them, is very dangerous. Look how fabulously it has worked so far...

Even if funds and parts are unlimited (and the never are) maintenance requires someone to get dirty. Sometimes very dirty.

I think this thread has stumbled into a taboo area and the mods should lock it down before someones politics gets a fight going.

As someone who watched ther very first episode of Star Trek the very first time it came on- I think William Shatner doesn't have to act, he just has to be himself. That being said- I enjoy him and James Spader on Boston Legal. (But I have a hard time getting past Jame Spader as the geeky linguist in Stargate.)
