Ah, yes a new Doctor! One of the things you can count on, just as you get familiar with the Doctor, ZAP; Change, new Doctor! Used to bother me to no end when I was younger, but now it's just a part of the character.
As to coming back as a female; I donna know, might make the ingénue side sidekick part, well not so important. Sexual tension you know, might not be the same with a swashbuckling female and a mousy (not to say all the Doctor's sidekicks were mousy) male... Defiantly wouldn't work with a mousy Doctor. Although now to think of it I do remember a BW portion of the series were the Doctor and I think Jenny get their bodies switched, funny as all get out.

My 13 and 15 y/o kids are MAJOR Dr. Who fans. Haley can quote chapter and verse.

Yes, I agree, that really is important! Especially if you're stuck in the snow trying to dig out. Dr. Who is one of my favorite shows of all time. First, saw it in the UK when we were living there in the 80's. Tom Baker is still my favorite.
Phil, do you think it will ever quit snowing?

Oh Greg - I'm beginning to wonder! Sounds like we are in for another foot or so tonight. I keep wanting to get over your way sometime soon and sit at the foot of the master. Now if I just owned my own snowplow!
I started watching Dr. Who back in the 80's as well - but cut my teeth on PBS re-runs starting with William Hartnell in black and white.

I believe it's been established in the Dr. Who mythology that the sex stays the same when someone from Gallifrey regenerates. Hence the Doctor will always be male, just as when Romana regenerated she was always female. I could be wrong on this though.
My big question is what will happen when the Doctor runs out of regenerations. I think each Gallifreyan can only regenerate 12 times. I could be wrong on the number, but this is what happeneded to the Master and caused him to have to start stealing bodies. If this is the 11th Doctor, that means 10 regenerations and only 2 left.

There was also some weirdness that came out during the Colin Baker period about The Valeyard, who prosecuted The Seventh Doctor at the Time Lords' Court.
http://www.gallifreyone.com/episode.php?id=7c2
...so we have this business of incarnations being "transferable" PLUS the possibility of The Valeyard also being one of the Doctor's incarnations.
This brings up the possibility of The Valeyard re-emerging as a villain to replace the departed Master (...do any of us really believe that the Master is gone?...).
But, when you're dealing with Time and Space, anything is possible.

I too am old enough to remember the original series (as a wee tot). Don't forget those great times with Patrick Troughton (2nd Doc) and his companion Jamie WHO ALWAYS WORE A KILT.
It's shame that McTennant never appeared kilted.
My favourite Dr Who - Tom Baker - a nice touch of 'other worldly'

I have not seen any of the old Doctor Who, but I'm a big fan of Eccleston and Tennant in the new Doctor Who.
When's the new episodes of Torchwood going to resume? I love Torchwood (especially when Doctor Who and Torchwood intersect).

According to this link, Torchwood is returning sometime in early 2009 in the UK, so expect it here sometime after that, on BBC America.
By the way, does anyone know that Torchwood is an anagram for Doctor Who? Go ahead, try it out!

As a sci-fi geek, I'm getting goose bumps with that, to me, an hitherto unknown revelation
