I have a Pendleton wool shirt in Robertson Red that I've worn with solid color kilts and pants.

Wompet, is that shirt still available from Pendleton?
Please, say yes!

A clerical shirt in blue clergy would be especially nice, don't you think?

About 8-9 years ago I bought an "on sale" from one of the UK mills a rather long length of the MacLaine of Lochbuie modern red. It was a poly-wool blend, and too light for a kilt (about 6 oz). My wife made it up into a couple of shirts. I intend to wear them until they disintegrate!

I'm sorry to say the last time I looked it wasn't.
I did find one on eBay two years ago - that became my father's Christmas present.
I know I found them again somewhere, but I'm at work right now and don't have my bookmarks ... I'll try to remember to look for it when I get home.

Target and Kohl's have some tartan dress shirts, Target had (as of 2 weeks ago) black watch, royal stewart and what looked to me like clark tartans. Kohls had several others, mostly fashion, but I did see a Camel brown.

That's right, some of us are on the pauper side of the kilted world.
Apoplexy and all.

I made a wool tartan shirt for my husband in the Antarctica tartan. It's DC Dalgliesh K7 11-12 oz weight, and it made a beautiful shirt. Here's a picture of him wearing it in Antarctica:

I think it took less than two yards, so it didn't cost that much to make. So, light weight kilting tartan (11 oz) or even lighter tartan (8 or 10 oz) makes a great shirt, and it's available in a zillion tartans.
Here's the same exact tartan made into a kilt:
