From the pics I've seen, the FC variety looks garish. I would go with a USA Kilts casual if you're on a tight budget. That's what I will be doing in the next couple of days.

I own an IOS and its pretty obvious its not really IOS at all - and enough has been said about that me thinks. It is well, dazzlingly colorful... I like to think of it as a kilt of many colors... Nothing wrong with that I suppose...

Here's pics of what everyone is copying. 16 ounce Strome from Lochcarron Mills. The colors are accurate on my monitor - yours may vary.
Bought it two years ago hand sewn by Kathy Lare for $511. Made a $200 down payment with balance on completion. With the exchange rate improving may be a bit less...or maybe you're not as fat as me and don't need as much cloth.
I love this kilt.
My opinion only - I believe in going top of the line with my favorite, most important, tartans. If Isle of Skye has meaning for you then save for the best. If you just like the tartan go with what works for you.

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."

Ron I too agree, that is a great looking kilt. I have move IOS to one of my top three wants. That being said:
To the rest of the rabble does this
look anything like that? I think not!

Actuallly, from a thread count standpoint it is pretty close, although as the rabble has noted the colors are a wee bit----shall we say---festive, far from the subtle beauty of the true IOS.
How many batteries does an 8 yd kilt in that Bright Skye tartan require?
