You asked about black, but my suggestion is royal blue, to accent the narrow stripe in the tartan.
I think we've met our quota fo hose threads for the next several months.

Funny you mention it. This thread came up solely because a friend of mine is knitting me some royal blue popcorn tops. She called Sunday to let me know that she just wouldn't be able to get them done in time.

I'm currently working on some RB ones as well, with white cables that cross each other in Xs all up the leg. I call them "Saltire Socks", because that's what they look like.

Question, please,
I have been lead to understand that BLACK kilthose are essentially worn only for funerals. Formal wear requires other deep, dark, rich colors .. but unless you're in mourning .. NOT black hose. (And if you ARE in mourning .. a black band around your arm, please) At least, that's what my Gran said.
Warm hugs! and Blessings of the Three upon ye and your families

I have never heard that about black hose. I think that the proper hose for formal attire are the tartan or diced hose, though, self colored hos of a darker shade might be all right.
I'm guessing that either of those would be acceptable for funeral attire. A black four-in-hand tie and white shirt probably are required. We'll see what others have to say.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I, personally, wear black kilt hose quite often. They match most of my tartans and to me look great with an Argyll jacket and a black tie no matter what the occasion. I select flashes to accent another color in the tartan.

I think I've caught the tartan or argyle hose bug... I can see them in my mind, and I like the look. I'm not talking about diced hose...
