Camp shirts and bowling shirts are usually cut to be worn untucked. Tailoring a regular shirt to have a straight hem should be no big deal. But what I'm confused about is if wearing a shirt untucked with a kilt doesn't look right to you, why isn't tucking it in so it does not an option?

    Regards,
    Rex.

I wouldn't wear a shirt untucked with a PC, or any other jacket. Plus, long sleeves are a great excuse for classy/hilarious cufflinks.

Anyway, I will often wear my Celtic FC (GO HOOPS!), or any other "sports" jersey untucked. The same is true of "jumpers" or sweaters, over-shirts, etc. that I wear. If you're going for a casual look, it works just fine. But this won't work for anything dressy. And if you wear a short-sleeved button up shirt with a jacket or a waistcoat, people are going to repeatedly ask you where the rest of your pipe band is.

    Thanks for the advice.

Rex, its not so much that I am against having it tucked in, I look perfectly fine. Its more of a stylistic choice I was exploring. I enjoy the looser feel of an untucked shirt, especialy in the shoulder area. A tucked in shirt does look nice, but for me it feels like it limites my range of motion.

When its tucked in, kilted or not kilted, I live in an area of maine where, if you have your shirt tucked in, everyone will be like: "Woah, why are you dressed up so fancy?"

Maybe a "banded" shirt might be just the thing you are looking for: Blair has a nice selection at reasonable prices.

    Another possibility, the hockey jersey.

I'm with you on this, Big Mikey. I have Iron Maiden and a Colorado Avalanche hockey jerseys that I occasionally wear. They feel odd tucked in...

Otherwise you could go with a normal everyday t shirt. It doesn't have to be a "kilt shirt." It can just be a shirt shirt.

I don't really quite understand exactly what you are looking for, but you could always try one of these: http://onlinemilitaria.net/shopexd.asp?id=1304&bc=no

It's a really nice summer weight shirt with a band at the waist so it won't look sloppy. I have one, though I never wear it with a kilt. Just didn't suit me since I am of the "always wear your shirt tucke in" school of thought. Roll the sleeves up and button them with the flap and you have a very cool short-sleved shirt.

    Unless it's a sweater!

Well, IMHO, It's because normal button down shirts do limit ones range of motion. A LOT. A remedy is to find, or have made, shirt patterns with arm pit gussets in them. You get full, or nearly full, range of motion in your arms and don't have to worry about your shirt becoming untucked in the process. I have a longer torso, and have struggled with this for years. It wasn't until recently I found that gussets could solve the problem.

    Cheers!
