Your right on that fact, you can't get it thru the metal detectors, and once
the sheriff has it, it's GONE!
I personally haven't been called for a long time, the last time was enough for them I guess, they looked at me very strange when I walked in,in my Black Watch, and everytime I walked to the rest room, never did get called again.
I don't believe the idea is to arrive in heaven in a well preserved body! But to slide in side ways,Kilt A' Fly'n! Scream'en "Mon Wha A Ride" Kilted Santas

your call
Are you asking because you are concerned about others reaction or because you fear that wearing the kilt will/will not get you on the jury???. I wear my kilt at EVERY opportunity. I don't have an opinion about what pants or skirt the other people wear, why should they have one on my clothes.
Aye Yours.

Just wondering about the hassles involved (metal detectors, for example) and if i might not be selected to stay if i show up in a kilt.

It's so unfair! I have never been called fur jury duty. Even though I have voted in all major and many minor elections since I was old enough to do so, not having fulfilled this civic duty, I don't feel like a fully formed citizen.
Ruefully,
Rex.

This makes two times for me. The first was Grand Jury for Hamilton County. Now Petit Jury for the Federal court.

The same for me Rex. I've been voting for over 30 years now and have never been called.

I've just been called for my second time. First was in Oregon back in '76. I've been living in Virginia since 1985 and this is the first time I've been called. I've also served on a general court-martial.
I don't mind serving but ironically, I've been challenged for every court-martial and the one civil trial I've been called to serve on, consequently I've only served on the two. We'll have to see how this time around goes.

I've been called to jury duty 3 times in the last 20 years or so... and been seated on a jury every time.
I have the utmost respect for the legal system, especially having sat as a juror. It's impressive how seriously the average person takes the responsibility, at least in my experience.
That said, my attitudes have changed a bit as I've gotten older and now that I'm wearing the kilt more, I think I would go kilted. If for no other reason than to be able to say "why" if a judge felt it was inappropriate. If women can wear trousers, why can't I wear a kilt? Would the judge throw out a Muslim woman wearing a scarf? How about an Indian in a Sari? What about a Jew with a Yarmulka? Why should I be singled out? It's not like I'm showing up in a flower print dress and branding myself as some kind of freak. If the judge reacts negatively, then I'd think I'd have a case for discrimination. If the attorneys think it brands me as too nonconformist or independent for them to want me on their jury, they're probably right. ;-)

It is something everyone need to do at least once. I have sat through 3 trials. Once as forman. A woman was going to try to hang it up. After we got to the deliberation room she said that her faith did not allow her to vote. Without mentioning here which faith she said she was I looked around. slowly. And said "I remember every question & how it was answered during the vior dire. There are 12 people here. 1 Catholic (me), 1 Morman & 10 Baptists. If you are saying you are not a Baptist I am going to have to tell the judge that you lied. Can you say 'jail'?" She voted. We put the crook away.

I am regularly called (11 times) for Jury Duty. I have been non-selected once, have served in ten trials, all as foreman. I have the habit of showing up to Jury Duty in full kit. Until 2001 that included the sgian dubh. I was only questioned about the kit once, and I answered the lawyer that I preferred to be dressed in formal attire to reflect the formality of the proceedings. (The lawyer was a slob.)
Enjoy the trial.
