I trifle not with such nonsense. The thread I use is created from the fur of the Northern Acrylibeast.

nah, but dude, you can figure all this out yourself. You don't need me.

Just look closely at pictures of kilts on this board, THINK about how a kilt is made, and put it together in your mind. If you do that, you will, in fact come to a more thorough understanding about how they're made and will be that much wiser of a customer.

Go look at pictures of sportkilts, and figure out how much fabric goes into a sportkilt, keeping in mind that most kilts have a drop from waistband to "hem" or selvedge of 22 - 24 inches. It's easy.

I have it on good authority that Rocky ALSO uses acrylibeast-derived thread...but I think it's from the animals gut lining.

I have a couple of questions. I am looking at your semi-traditional kilt. My waist is 36 and my hip measurement is about 41. How many pleats would I have? Also, I would this be classified a 5 yard kilt, 8 yard, or does it not matter for semi-trad?

Also, do you ever have any discounts on this kilt. For example, sales or returns?

    Thanks,

    Brice
I wanted to answer the question directly even though others have answered it... he asked me so I wanted to make sure it came from 'the horses mouth' (or horse's @#$ ):

Our Semi Trads typiaclly have 18 to 30 pleats in them, depending on the size of the individual. If you're a 36 X 41, you'll have about 22 or 23 pleats. That doesn't include the deep first pleat or the deep reverse pleat at the under apron.

The amount of fabric depends on the size of the sett and whether the kilt is done to Sett or Stripe. For a kilt with a 6" repeat done to the sett, it would have about 6 yards in it. Most of our Semi Trads have between 5 and 7 yards. For our Semi Trad model, we don't let the ammount of the material dictate the size / # of the pleats... we do the reverse. We figure out what will make a nice pleat size / depth FIRST, then figure out how much material to cut.

For those who wanted to know about the thread we use... Guterman (and an OCCASIONAL spool of Coats and Clark) 100% poly on 5000 yard spools. In the 6 years we've been making kilts (and other various things), I haven't had any problems with our thread.

Unforunately, no. Kelly and I make them all ourselves, so any discounts would come directly out of our pay... therefore we don't discount them (unless you get a package deal).
