    I have taken some photos of my kilt hose which might be more help to you -

    These are in ancient Lindsay and will be 60 years old next year, here is the receipt when they were bought





    And these are Galbraith tartan bought only a few years ago



    Both have a seam at the back of the leg - you should be able to see that on the Lindsay hose quite clearly.

    Thank you phil that's also very helpfull. I'm glad with all the photo's and also since I'm a sock knitting addict get my kick out off those hoses Thanks they look gorgeous and I've started the argyle try out...just the technique not the sock itself as that would be very progressive.

    Indeed it does, although that was pre-decimal and equates to £7.75 in today's mone. There was also purchase tax of £2 15 shillings and sixpence or £2.77 to be added on so a total cost of £10.52-a cool US$15.42. Here it is -



    And how about US$14.95 for a Montrose doublet then? Here it is 59 years later -
