So instead of the ~$300 semitrad, I am saving using my 'difficult to use' bank account, which over the next two months I should be able to pull off the full ~$550 8yard wool version instead. Anyone know about how long such takes to get when ordered? I know most of the wait is for the mill to weave it, at least as far as I know that is the case. She will see the folly in making me wait...
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that most mills would have common tartans already in stock. The rare and unusual tartans would have to be specially woven for your kilt, but the cost would be much higher than $550.. I believe that most of the wait time is due to the volume of orders that most kitmakers ae getting now. I can't say for sure how long Rocky, Barb, Matt or Kathy take to sew a kilt, but that time is small compared to the length of time for your order to reach the top of the list.

Well, I just received my IOS 13oz from Rockey at USA Kilts, on Monday. Ordered it at end of Feb, and received mid May. Most of the wait was for the fabric, which arrived at end of April, I believe.

The $500+ is well worth the wait. It is tailored just for you, so it fits properly, and cannot compare to any off the rack product. Save up your pennies and go for it.

Two months is my customers' average wait time and I think that's pretty typical across the board for most kilt makers. Yes, a good portion of that time is often spent waiting for the fabric to actually arrive whether they've had to re-weave depleted stock or not. If it's a reasonably common tartan the mill will have it on hand. Most mills have very extensive ranges.
