Absolutely.
you would therefore need 2 yards double wide for a 4 yards Box pleat

You are correct. I spent so many years a s a pediatrician doing the simplest math possible for drug and dosage calculations and we always worked on the 30 grams per oz rule, so I just stayed in that mode. Taking that into account then the following calculations should be correct:
a "fabric yard" of 16oz tartan ought to weigh about 452 grams (or 325 grams per sq meter) give or take, 13 oz tartan ought to weigh 390 grams (or 280 grams per sq meter), 10 oz tartan 283 grams (or 203 grams per sq meter).
MM Jura range tartan (I randomly chose Black Isle since I have a kilt in that tartan from them) is listed as 331g/sm and 16 oz (actually more like 16.3 oz tartan if you do the math).
That is more like it.
Thanks for the correction factor.

Now I am thinking and having to do maths too, my head is heating up, the fleas are leaving and as a good ogre I can't have that.

Yeah, but for quick estimation purposes it's close enough. Decimals are too much work for us Yanks We much prefer things in arbitrary fractions like sixteenths and eigths and twelfths. But barring that, whole numbers only, please

This is not math, people. This is arithmetic. If we throw in some x's and y's for fun, it becomes algebra.
IMHO it's not math until we start trying to figure the maximum volume that can be wrapped in 5 fabric-yards of double-width Strome with a sett size of 155 mm. ith:

Fluter you are starting to sound like my fourth grade teacher Mrs Piper, and believe me that is a vision and memory I do not care to have to relive. But thanks for the correction.
