Perhaps it is supposed to represent a Templar who, after the Battle of Bannockburn of course, made his way to Livonia, and joined the Teutonic Order to take part in the crusade against the European pagans? Then again...

I thought sergeants wore dark brown mantles, not black...Where's my copy of Helen Nicholson when I need it?

EDIT: Upton-Ward's translation of the Rule of the Templars does mention sergeants wearing brown or black, but no real specifics. I stand corrected.

I thought that they might be representing the Hospitilars, but they also wore white with red crosses.

    Hospitilars

However, I did find this image?

The Hospitallers wore black mantles with white crosses; the first image shows a Templar with the Order's banner, the Beauseant. The Hospitaller is the fellow on the right in the third image.

    Rogerson,

I can't find the piper figure you made the kilt for on the website you provided. Could you please provide a direct URL if it is still there?

I believe that this was a custom build.
