Help with xkilt instructions

Bump again. I am not going to let this thread get shoved into oblivion. Maybe tomorrow someone will help me.

It looks like (it's hard to tell, in black the details get lost.) what's happening is that the pleats to the left of the overapron are sticking out. That right? That's usually caused by somthing pulling at the overapron. Perhaps it's a touch small in the hip, or the hip line of your body and the kilt don't match.

Well how can a person tell if the hip line and the kilt don't match? And I am still waiting for the others that posted initially here to chime in since I posted the photos.

The hip line is the line around the widest part of your seat, generally it is better to err on the larger rather than smaller size, which is why kiltmakers will say a tight measurement on a waist and a loose one on the hips.

Yeah, I have a 39 inch butt and the rump measurement is 40"

Are you wearing it with the waistband level from front to rear? It looks as if it may be dipping down just a bit in front, which can force the front pleats open. It only takes a little off-kilter (ha ha) for the pleats to get out of parallel and start going every which way.

Try hiking the waistband up an inch in front and see if it makes a difference. If not, let us know, and we'll keep working on it with you!

It also looks to me like you've sewn the left hand edge of the over-apron clear across the top of the first box pleat. NOT! It should butt up next to the first box pleat.

If I'm right, and you've overlapped the overapron and the first pleat, then your kilt is 3 inches too small and will not hang right at all.

It is butted against the first box pleat. The reason why it looks like that is because it is butted against the box pleat at the top. The bottom is wider than the top so it will overlap. Or should I have butted it up against the box pleat at the bottom and let the top of the apron be 1" from the pleat?

I would line up the edges.

The far left-hand edge of the over apron should lie right next to the "forward-facing edge" of box pleat #1. I'd also sew down the left hand edge of the over-apron, say 6 inches or so, though you could leave it floating, like sydnie7 does.

Whatever the case, the over-apron does not lie on top of any part of the first box-pleat.

If in fact that is NOT what you've done, and there is no overlap, then I'm not sure what's going on.
