    Yeah, oxfords are dressy. Brogues scream daywear. I own a pair of ghillies and like them, but probably wouldn't wear them with a formal outfit.

    For fancy/evening dress...

    You may not like to waltz (hopefully you do), but your dress shoes should be appropriate for dancing (leather soled) and be light and sleek looking.

    As far as I have read, you can also wear regular evening pumps with the ribbon bows. Those could also be worn , as is, with a tuxedo, so could serve double duty.
    I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
