Well said Andy. I do agree for all places outside of Scotland. Probably wouldn't work in Scotland though.

Well done. Like you I believe both are acceptable at the proper times. The kilt is so versatile and can meet the requirements of both.

Excellent post! And since I'm not of Scottish descent, color me a total CFW--though I do have a great appreciation for the THWs.

Thanks for the great post. This one and others have had me thinking alot. I'm in the process of becoming a more frequent kilt wearer. Becuause of this I'm buying more kilt related items. I've been trying to find/decide on my own personal kilt wearing style. Reading these recent threads has helped me clarify what I want. Reading and learning from all of the experienced people here on this site has been a real education. Thanks.

    Two Modalities

From the pictures I have seen on this forum for various events, most members seem to handle the appropriateness of their dress quite well.
If one looks at the variance in kilts from major Scottish vendors, they seem to have good variety without straying too dramatically from tradition.

I think the idea with Scotland and THW is, well, they're just very proud of it, as they should be, so they may see a lot less of a need for innovation. Sort of a "if it's not broke don't fix it" mentality.

I am not scot, so this merely a hypothesis.
