Thank you all for the warm welcome. it's always good to hear from the folks back home and fellow kilt-wearers from all over. I see lots of info here on civilians and their medals and that kind of thing, nothing yet with regs. But I think ya'll have me on the right track! I'll keep snooping on my end as well.

Welcome from a fellow deployed Army Guy
Welcome to the XMTS. I'm fairly new here myself, but already feel at home. I'm surprised you haven't already been dogpiled on by a ton of people regarding mixing uniforms and civilian attire. Most of the posts I have seen here along these lines have been very "anti-" on the subject.
I'll admit to having mixed feelings about it myself. I, like you, considered getting myself and Army Tartan kilt to wear with my Army Mess jacket at certain events. I've seen it done by an SF Captain who used to play the pipes at unit events. Many feel that, to wear the uniform, you either wear it properly IAW the regs or not at all. There is a certain amount of truth in that and I guess I can appreciate that viewpoint.
I think my inclination...and again...this is just me...you can choose as you see fit...is that I probably will not mix uniform and the kilt. The alternative, in my mind, is to get yourself a Prince Charles jacket and waistcoat to wear with your kilt at formal events in lieu of a uniform. Army regulations allow the wear of decorations (specifically mini medals) on the lapel of civilian formal wear..and this applies to a PC jacket with a kilt. That way you can still show your service while not trampling on uniform regs and traditions of the service.
Just some food for thought.
