It's important that you come up with your own name fast, or they come up with one for you. Fifi didn't pick his name out fast enough... I have probably 'til Sunday to avoid a similar fate.

So, um is this kinda like an SCA-meets-LARP sort of group?

It's the LA in LARP. You can role-play if you want, but most people here don't really get into that aspect too much. It's more of a sport, really. The garb lets you know you're in the game (in high school, I really didn't wear my wrestling singlet outside of matches) and your "battle name" will probably become your nickname in real life, just like with any sports team I've ever been a part of. Hmm, maybe I should put more thought into the name than I already was... I kind of forgot about that....

One of the best suggestions so far, IMHO.

Neither are wrong. It literally means the hound (Cú) of Culann, his real name was Setanta. I am sure Wikipedia will be able to tell you why he had to be Culann's guard dog .

It is Latin so no-one really knows. Any way you want to? ![Wink](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Other suggestions, if you want a Christian linkage, are the various Irish missionaries who brought Christianity back to Europe. Perhaps the one most relevant to this board would be St. Colum Cille, know to the Scots as Columba. Alternatively, St. Brendan the Navigator is linked to the US.

Sorley Boy MacDonnell was more Hebridean Scot than Irish in background. Suggestions:
Manus Roe O'Cahan, Con Dubh O'Neill. Two Irish Confederates who gave Cromwell and the Covenanters a poke in the eye.

And where did the Hebridean Scots come from?
