Actually, I think the scientific name of the compound in question is "Kiltanol." It's a volatile hydrocarbon produced by the friction of wool fibers against other wool fibers. Thus a 16 oz. twill produces more kiltanol than a 11 oz. Pleating, of course, maximizes this wool-on-wool friction.
Experience has taught us that an 8 yd. kilt of 16 oz. wool is the ideal kiltanol delivery device.
As to addictive. No....not at all. Why. Do you think I have a problem?!?

I find the term "kiltaholism" amusing but not what ought to be broadcasted in the title bar. It's better for newcomers to find the inside joke where it's supposed to be: inside!
But Steve's tinkering with the site explains it and I sympathize with the difficulty in editing codes and layouts...

Sorry for the over reaction Steve---it just really caught me off guard and, having several close friends who are ex-aholics of some form or another who still are discriminated against even after being "clean" or "dry" for long periods, I guess I am probably a little more sensitive than most. Again, sorry if I set off any ill-destined chain reaction, Steve.
Mods, since I started this thread, and the issue is resolved without remaining concern, you have my permission/request to close and/or remove this thread.

I second the "Kilt Enthusiasts" preference. If we weren't, why would this forum exist?
By the way, have you seen any sock or hat enthusiast forums?

Whatever the criteria I'm sure I qualify...
But, I'm not that bad, really I'm not...I've never purchased more than three kilts at once...never...okay, you're right...I did order those four USA Kilts at once in '06 but really I normally only order no more than two kilts at a time...sometimes only one....yes, sometimes I only order one kilt at a time.
I've NEVER spent more than $800 on a kilt...well, close, but they are leather kilts...
Not sure how many pair of kilt hose I own, but its certainly less than 100...and owning two pair of kilt hose in the same color isn't "insuring the supply" its just common sense in case something happens to one pair.
And selling off kilts to raise money to buy more kilts doesn't necessarily make me a "kilt dealer" or "kilt junkie."
And really, someday I might NEED a dress sporran and a Prince Charlie...really I might...so I bought them....so what?
What do you mean how many kilt pins do I own?? Wouldn't wanna wear the same kilt pin all the time and besides, Ham says to have a different kilt pin for each kilt so you don't have wear and tear in the kilt pin area from making changes...
Yes I have a lot of sporrans...I know I can only wear one sporran at a time but you never know which sporran will be the best to wear with a particular turnout.
What? No all those kilt related/Scottish/Highland games t-shirts aren't an indication of a kllt addiction, they're just t-shirts. I could wear them with pants if I wanted...if I wore pants...I don't know...only about 50 or so t-shirts...so what?
Of course, everyone with a kilt needs an Inverness Cape in case it rains...that's obvious...
So like, if I inventory up ALL my kilt related stuff is there some criteria to measure it against to determine if I have a "problem?"
Still feels like fun to me.
Look, I'm kinda busy now...gotta measure myself for a new leather kilt from Robert...yeah...that'll be my third leather kilt...so what?

Cold turkey, Ron, and don't look back.

The first step is admitting you have a problem. Pretty sure I am one.

Exactly. I don't have a problem; my partner does - me.

I see something like that as lighthearted humor. But as long as I have been here & gotten to know the "tone" of the place, I have been able to develop a very laid back attitude.
