Happy Yule! My wife and celebrated a wonderful Mother Night with some friends with a great feast and a wonderful small Blot in honour of Frigga and our ancestors. Hail the new solar year!

    Happy Yule & Blessed Solstice!
I put together my first Yule log this year, but never got to burn it (or even light its candles), but I was glad to see the Sun so strong today!

I had an unusual experience this solstice. I was in Miami, Florida on my honeymoon this year. We got an extra hour of sunlight down there. It was fun.

As a longstanding sufferer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD, aka the winter blues) I can tell you that within a day or two of winter solstice I can tell the days are starting to get longer, regardless of the fact that winter solstice coincides closely with the onset of the winter season. Funny how one's body is able to tell things like that. Within a week or two the blues begin melting away, despite snow on the ground, etc... for a couple more months before it actually becomes hospitable outside again.
My feelings too. I usually find November and December seem like the darkest, longest, and most depressing months of the year, once I get into January I start to look out for the first flowers and the first spring lambs and begin to make plans for the new season ahead.
