I don't have any source to offer, but it was always my understanding that The St. Andrew's Society of Detroit's Highland Games were the oldest continuously held games in the States. For many years they were held on Bob-Lo Island, a then amusement park at the mouth of the Detroit River which was a really neat venue. Ah, the old days . . .

This past August the St. Andrew's Society of Detroit celebrated the 160th annual Highland Games in Livonia, Michigan.

I've had the pleasure of attending the Livonia games and our band competes there. Really want to attend the Pleasanton games as my Clan Maclaine of Lochbuie has a clan tent there every year. As soon as the better half retires...

    I ran across this tidbit
The first Highland Games were held in 1850, marking the 150th Annual Highland Games in August 1999.
The St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit Annual Highland Games are the oldest, continually presented
Highland Games in the western hemisphere.

So 1850 Detroit/Livonia seems to be the oldest in the Western Hemisphere... Perhaps Antigonish is the oldest in Canada?

Odd that so many Games started in the 1860's.

    Thanks for all the info!

Could be. I just copied the info from their web site. Maybe they are the "oldest continuously held", as opposed to the earliest held in NA.
