For those of us who may not know, what is Epiphany? It looks lovely.

January 6th is celebrated as Ephiphany, or the Twelfth Day of Christmas. It is regarded as the day that the divinity of the Christ Child became known to the Gentiles, as represented by the three Magi. Generally speaking Epiphany seems to be observed and celebrated in the Orthodox Christian, Roman Catholic, and Anglican faiths, but is somewhat less observed in the general protestant community.

Years ago we decided not to let Christmas get cluttered with presents, so we give our presents on epiphany also known in Germany as the day of the three wise men who brought their gifts to Jesus - I believe this is a practice also known in Spain.
We cuddle up in bed - my wife, three children and me - so there are no kilts present and so: no pics!
But it´s great to have traditions for such a day!

Wonderful pictures! Not being a Christian myself I don't celebrate Epiphany, but I have friends who do and they always have such a wonderful time!

Robert, as always, you present us photos that show great style and grace. your customs are wonderful, and I appreciate the detail.
In Todd's photo of the cop baby, (for those who don't know), you can tell he's a NOLA cop by his badge. Their unique badges have the crescent with the star suspended beneath since N.O. is the "Crescent City." (check a map sometime to see the bend of the river, and you'll understand what it's called that.)
And finally, Epiphany is from the Greek επιφανεια or επιφανός (I think that's right; it's been decades since I studied Greek) which is, as pointed out, a revealing or uncovering. Most American protestants have forgotten that Christmas was orginally a season of 12 days which began on Dec 25 and lasted until Jan. 6, hence "on the first day of Christmas my true love . . .". "We Three Kings" is a very popular song on that day or the Sunday just preceding it.
