Well, it does look like it would be appropriate for weaving with naturally colored fibers....

    Greetings,

The Tartan is called Nite Shade II. The colours were chisen strictly for an aesthetic reason. I do like black and the darker side of the pallette, but I can honestly say there is no real deeper meaning to the colour scheme. I was trying to make a kilt that was pleasing to my eye and that could be worn both for formal and casual occasions.

I like the idea of shadow tartans but wanted something that you didn't have to work so hard at seeing the tartan itself. I am loud and brash enough to be noticed, I don't need a loud bright tartan on me. I like the muted elegance of the tartan and the slight contrast between the colours with the stark slash of peroxide white setting it all off.

    With Greatest Respect,

    Matt

    Hi Hamish,

It could just be my monitor, but I am seeing muted, not stark.

    Black 90
looks like very, very dark brown,

    Peroxide White 8
does not look stark - has an unbleached wool look,

    Oxford Blue 16
looks more grey/blue - with the emphasis on grey,

    Railway Black 16
    looks Cadbury's chocolate brown,

    Peroxide White 8
and we are back to unbleached wool.

All that having been said, I find it quite attractive. Ideally the Oxford blue should be more blue, otherwise fine.

If on the other hand, if I should be seeing a stark monochrome colour scheme, then I don't know whether I would like it as much.

    Regards,

    Chas

    Greetings,

Part of it may be a monitor issue as the black looks black on mine. You are correct about the other colours though. The other issue may have been my choice of words. All the colours chosen were from the weavers thread list so the names are their names. Stark may not have been the word I meant but to me the white does provide a nice contrast to the darker colours.

Thank you all for your observations.

    With Greatest Respect,

    Matt
