If you took a pony or horse of the same weight as those folks in question and poured as much booze down that pony or horse of the same weight what would that pony do?
It would be crazy as they are, then pass out and sleep off the booze.
No one would walk up to the drunken horse and say, "That's the REAL horse - the booze brings out who the horse really is." They'd say, "STOP POISONING THAT HORSE! You're gonna kill it!"
Same when you posion people with booze - its not who they really are - its who they are when they're poisoned with booze.
While its sad they are so rude while kilted, the kilts have no more to do with their behavior than their shoes.
Booze has been convincing people to get naked for all eternity - regardless of what they were wearing when the besotted idea to bare all hit them.
Hopefully, our tendency to feel shame by association is only ours and not the general populus'.
I will keep my ear peeled though, just in case someone shouts at me, "Look he's wearing a kilt, just like those drunken rugby fans."
As mentioned in the OP, the fault is booze.
The association is only ours if we choose to accept it. I don't.

What you really need to keep your ear tuned for is, "hey, let's ban the wearing of the kilt to rugby games or (fill in the blank for any other social event)." That, sadly, is usually the knee-jerk reaction when one group of people start behaving badly.

Keith Davies, 21, dropped his kilt on BBC's Wales Today in the run-up to Saturday's Wales-Scotland Six Nations match.
He and pals from Hawick Rugby Club
Oh dear! Not good news.
I know quite a few people in Hawick Rugby Club though not the young man involved in this incident.
It seems to me it would have been easier to drop trousers than a kilt, as a kilt has the additional obstacle of a sporran.
Unfortunately the young lad appears to have been thrust into the media spotlight of the commentary box while still lacking the maturity to deal with his moment of fame and this has led instead to infamy.
At the age of 21, life's allotted span still seems like an eternity, it is understandable but regrettable that many young people drink heavily with no regard for the consequences.

Alex, sadly that's the mentality of a large minority who go to see whatever sport and team play. Drunkeness is a norm and often fuels the atmosphere.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Although drink was the major factor here, its always amazing that some individuals in kilts seem to think that it is necessary to either lift their kilt or in this case strip naked.
I hate to be associated with these type of kilt wearers
I don't think "kilted" figures into the equation on this one. Kilted or not they were just drunken boobs.

For many years I followed the Scottish national football team abroad to a great many places, whereas the behaviour of the supporters was mainly good, there always was incidents in which drunken supporters in kilts exposed themselves and got into trouble because of this.
Yes I know drink is always a major player in these antics but believe me, you have to know the Scots that when they go abroad or even down to Wales, the combination of drink and wearing the kilt is something different, there is this totally addictive compulsion to expose one self. I have yet to see a Scotland supporter, full of drink and not wearing the kilt expose himself.
Believe me the Scotland supporter abroad is something else.

I was thinking for a minute that media spin had created a monster, like "kilt-wearer exposes himself while wearing kilt, fingers point to kilted-ness as factor in kilt-related exposure by kilted man, kilt involved", but the kilt was barely mentioned. They seemed to be focusing on the offending member of the team ...not what he was wearing.
I say, if they ban kilts, somebody should drop their pants...hopefully they will then re-allow kilts, or if they're feeling particularly addled, perhaps they'll ban pants. I wouldn't worry about it overmuch .

So true, Ron. Just consider the Biblical passage where Noah did the exact same thing (Gen. 9:20-21).
