Warm ot what?

In retrospect, ever wonder if people just ask that as a conversation starter? Maybe they want to know more, or just be near the awe of being kilted, and don't know what else to say?

No, in my experience they actually think that they will be warmer in their puir wimpy blue jeans! I have to be careful not to injure myself by falling down laughing:

Then I explain as tactfully as possible that I'm wearing about 4.5 kilograms of wool, and what's their excuse anyway?

I think a lot of people just assume that cold breezes travel in straight lines until they meet a kilt, then they magically swirl upwards to cool off the long suit (or shortcomings) of the kilt wearer.
Last week the Mrs. and I took a stroll around our neighborhood, about a mile all together. There was about 5 inches of snow on the ground, with temperatures in the upper 20s. I wore my 4-yard box-pleat MacDougall and a pair of Army-uniform store socks, with waterproof boots. From the kneecap down, my legs were cold. From the kneecaps up, I was perfectly toasty.

Recently traveling through Pennsylvania during their record snowfall, I was asked the "warmth" question constatnly. Everyone forgets, hot air rises. And yes, it was always the men asking that question. The women just look, and smile.

Several years ago I was returning from a Kilt night and it was a rather cold evening. Of course I was walking and because I was also Kilted he asked the cold question. I stopped and talked to him as sweat was running down my brow and he was shivering in his shorts and t-shirt. Some people just do not get it, or understand no matter how you try to explain it to them.

Yes, I have been asked this question! My answer is "you obviously have never worn a kilt!"

This also happened to me a while back. I was at my favorite spot for a cuppa when a lady a little older than myself(I think), anyway she asked if I was cold. I looked myself up and down real quick, thanked her for her concern and told her I was wearing enough wool to knit a sheep. The look on her face was just priceless. I bought her a cup of coffee and we had a great conversation. I think the power of the kilt won the day!ith:

"Aren't you cold?"

Now this is not the first time that this question has been asked, mainly by men. It would seem that Joe Public has this odd idea that kilts must be draughty. Now this is odder still when you think about the geographical origin of kilts. Not exactly the hottest part of Britain?

I think the same thing... No, these things got people through the last ice age! And then in the summer, people ask me "Aren't you hot?" People can't seem to make up their minds! It cracks me up.

Yes, and I'm tired of being asked. Especially this winter which has been unusual cold, it has been the case.
If I try to explain it, people will listen but I can see that most don't believe, that I'm not cold in a kilt.

So to me snow cannot disappear fast enough.

Only women have ever asked me that particular question (aside from the "wooly" comment, the subject of another thread); all were trousered.
