Never mix. I don't even like mixing different shades of brown.
-
Oxblood goes with brown, but not with black
-
No, oxblood goes with black, not brown.
-
Oxblood goes well with black or brown.
-
Whatever, all three in the same ensemble as far as I care!

Perfect! I'll have one of those too.
Seriously, I don't mix black, browns or oxblood. I even hate to wear a black cell phone holster on a brown belt.

i'm so particular about leathers matching that it quite nearly does me in that the straps on my kilt are black. everytime i try to wear a brown belt and sporran with it i cringe a bit inside.

I think the belt and sporran should match, but black shoes with brown or oxblood leathers are fine. I have seen enough photos of many a Highland Gent doing just that..

I voted Oxblood, black and brown, but there are so many more options! I'm not finishing this one out in brown, but you can get the idea of how the different colours interact and play.

I definitely like it when the colors come through.

When I began playing pipes in the mid 1970's and going to Highland Games and getting books and albums (big vinyl ones) and seeing a lot of pipers in Highland Dress, it was a standard look for them to wear black ghillies and waistbelts and brown Day Dress sporrans.
In fact it was a number of years before I had ever seen a pair of brown ghillies, or seen a black leather Day sporran.
Matching leathers with Day Dress, therefore, always strikes my eye as looking a bit odd.
I don't have digital images, but I have loads of old albums and photos of pipers from the 1940's up through today wearing black ghillies and brown Day sporrans.

In an ideal world it would be nice to have all our leathers matching. On the other hand, we can only buy what a manufacturer is selling, either that or make our own. If you have the skills and the money - great. If not you make do. As I often say on threads about funerals - you can't wear a kilt you don't have, likewise you can't wear accessories that you don't have.
