For outfits two & three (my typical casual outfits) a leather sporran strap would do just as well.

You look great! There's something to be said about sporting a beard with a kilt. It looks fitting. I like the placement of your kilt pin above the USAK patch. When I was contemplaiting removing the patch on my own kilt, this was one of my concerns. But the placement on yours looks great. It's great hiking in a kilt isn't it?

I don't know if I'd agree with that. I'd agree with the INVERSE that the STRAP is for 'less formal', but I've always had chain straps with all of my sporrans and have never felt 'overdressed' in them.

I was in Wal-Mart, the other day and bought a womens belt, X-Large and it looks good on the sporran. As a bonus, it has one of those reversable belt buckles, and the belt is brown on the other side, so now when I get a brown sporran, I have a belt for it.

Thanks for the compliments and support everyone! I take it there isn't anything I'm doing terribly wrong then?
The chain wearing the fabric is what really worries me (I also like the look of straps). I figure the belt arrangement will also be more comfortable as there is more surface area to disperse the weight.

R-kilts makes a great braided sporran belt. I've got the brown and black and love them.

Sorry, mate, you got it all wrong. The correct way is to put the pleats in the front
Nah, you did great! Congrats on the kilt!
