Terry, I know that tartan well(no I don't wear it), but something for you to consider. That tartan looks well when pleated to the sett and it might be an idea for Matt(sorry Matt!) to pleat it to the sett in a trial pleating as well, before you make up your mind?

    Thanks for the tip Jock.

    Talking

I was informed a few hours ago that Matt is about ready to start on my new kilt!

Matt is sending (via email) the photos of his pleat suggestions, and I will post same here with my choice.

    (I'm terribly excited!! :mrgreen

    Pleat photos:

Okay everyone, Matt sent me the two options for the pleats for my new box pleat.

The first one shows it pleated to the blue line in the green block, giving the backside of the kilt a darker look:

The second photo shows it pleated to the line in the red field, giving it a brighter look (& as Matt says a cleaner look):

I have a day or two before my wife retakes my measurements, so I'd be interested in hearing the thoughts from the rabble on which one they like (& why).

Of the two? Top one. It's stronger in the vertical.

    Thanks John.

It's hard for me to decide. I like the "clean" apperance of the 2nd/red one, but there's just something about that darker one that I really like too

I think #2 would be more impressive, as (if I'm not mistaken) the blue/green block will show INSIDE the pleat, giving a very dynamic 'reveal' when the pleats part.

Either way, it's going to be a beauty.

Either way looks very nice. But, if I had to pick one over the other, I'd go with the top one, also. Oh, tough decision. Good luck!

It always amazes me how one can take a tartan, and depending upon how one pleats it, can make it look like two different pieces of cloth!

The biggest factor is personal preference. Do you want your kilt to be darker or lighter in the back? Is there a particular color you want to emphasize?

However, if you did not have a preference, left to me I'd pleat to the second option; as I said in my email it does present a cleaner look
