I am still on my first kilt and after wearing it for a while I realized that I would need a few more so that I would not tire of wearing the same one over and over. I want to experience the variety of wearing more than one kilt that keeps each one a special treat, sort of like a box of variety chocolates. Each piece is tasty in it's own way. I'm sure even Hamish has special memories of times spent wearing each one of his many kilts.

For me it the feeling has never really worn off and I've got six that I wear, with my oldest dating back to 1982. I get a charge out of seeing them and even more so when I wear them (which I never get when I buy a new suit). My only problem is that I can't wear my kilts as often as I'd like, though I'm certainly wearing them more than I used to.

Personally, having this and other kilt related forums helps keep the thrill alive long after I have worn a kilt multiple times and it has "faded into the collection", so to speak. I say this becasue having the opportunity to show it off here, to relive some of those old pictures from the album when someone else asks a question that requires reviving an old photo for a befitting answer, running through some of the old kilt night photos and other threads revives the memories, as someone above said that Hamish must be full of.
I too do not get to wear the kilt as often as I like for a variety of reasons, but do still enjoy that swish factor each and every time I do strap one on. And although my wife may complain about the disproportionate (and uncomfortable in her case) attention attracted in public by doing so I instead revel in it and wear it like it has been part of my wardrobe all my life. Each wearing revives the thrill a bit more---I guess when it stops it will feel like just putting on another pair of jeans. And that can be good too, having that utterly comlete comfort in wearing the kilt, so much so that you actually forget you have it on until someone comments and brings you back to the realization that you are indeed kilted, and that in most folks minds in most situations that is an aberration, but not for you. Some day I will get to that point, and maybe then the thrill may be a bit abated, but until then the thrill is still not gone.

Well... I got my last new kilt at Christmas time and I still get a bit jazzed every time I'm strapping it on. I think it can tend to last a good while with me.

Personally, it's not a real problem for me. What is a problem is not falling victim to "Obsessive Kilt Acquisition Syndrome", which has many brothers and sisters: Obsessive Knife Acquisition Syndrome, Handbags, Shoes, Cars, Fly Rods...you get the picture...
At this point, I have enough kilts and jackets to be able to turn out looking good for just about any event and I don't need the endorphins generated by getting something new just for the sake of getting something new. My wife thinks that I've been self-indulgent enough already and, upon careful thought, I do too.

This is an interesting thread now!
I just realized there is a new classification of junky I wasn't aware of, Kilt junkies!!!!
And I am addicted too!! LOL
Seriously though, I don't think haveing a tangible link to the past in one's heritage ever wanes.

The thrill isn't gone, it's just that my wardrobe is still pretty limited. There are only so many ways you can wear one pair of hose/shoes/one sporran/one belt with t-shirt and hoodie. So...yeah...and I haven't been wearing it around the house, because I'm either going out for a run, coming back from a run or the gym, headed for the garage, or eating...so there's not much time or place for a kilt in the mix, at least not that kilt. For all my talk in the past, and all Robert MacDonald's assurances to durability, I've been thinking about getting another kilt specifically to abuse (even if it's another tank)...because the one I have now is a beauty.

I've only been kilting for about a year, and have three to my name. Seems like I might be the only one, though, for whom thrill isn't a factor? I enjoy having the opportunity to wear one, but by now those kilts are just a part of my wardrobe. Just another piece of clothing. Don't get me wrong... I do love my kilts! But for me it's the act of wearing them rather than the individual kilts themselves that gets me going. That's not to say "one kilt is as good as the next"... Each of my kilts is different, I enjoy different things about each, and I may wear each for different occasions. But I don't get that same sense of excitement aimed at a particular kilt that y'all seem to.
Of course, I'll be getting a couple new kilts soon, so that view may be subject to change shortly

Everytime I get one out the thrill comes back, but it is different with my first kilt. An 8-yd'r in my family tartan. It is kind of like being married, when I first saw my wife in her wedding dress and she smiled at me my heart nearly burst and I almost cried. I still feel that tug at my heart when she smiles at me, and I still feel a tug of a different type when I pull out the family tartan.
