    Itessig,

As you are fairly new to our forum I would like to point out a very subtle aspect of X Marks.

You asked a question and are seeking advice. But, did you notice that although mentioned six times in the responses you have so far, not once has Rocky of USA Kilts chimed in and self-promoted his own product?

We, the advertisers on X Marks, have since our very early days, held to the ideal that we would be polite towards our fellow advertisers and humble when it comes to self-promotion.

The reason you have not heard from Rocky directly in answer to your inquiry is that he is the embodiment of that ideal.

One of the reasons Rocky and USA Kilts is so successful, and so respected on this forum is that he will never chime in on a thread like this and self-promote his own product.

And for that reason, among others, my choice when looking for a kilt in the price range you mention will always be USA Kilts.

I am not as humble as Rocky and I do make a Kilt from the same Polyester/Rayon fabric as Rocky uses, but I won't self-promote on this thread either. This is primarily due to my kilts being just a bit out of your stated budget. I don't make a price-point, budget model Kilt.

You are free to choose your own kilt and I applaud you for doing your research. The final decision must be yours because frankly it is your hard earned money.

But I thought I would let you in on a little secret and let you know that although in my opinion Rocky is the best choice for a Kilt in your stated price range you will never see him come on the forum and hawk his own wares. He lets his reputation speak for him.

    I wear the kilt because:

I'll second what Steve said (even though I shamelessly promoted the museum's gift shop in this thread!).

I hope that you'll click on each of the advertisers' buttons in the forum and thoroughly research what's available. You'll find different products at different price points available from all of us, and I know that all of us are ready to answer any of your questions.

For you budget, we can provide you with a standard machine stitched 8 yard wool kilt, or our phenomenal 8 yard and 4 yard PV kilts. Check out our kilt page, and don't hesitate to PM if you have any questions.

Just to give you more options in the under $300 price point, you might want to look at the machine stitched 8 yard wool kilts from Tartanweb, lots of tartans to choose from in the 16oz Jurra and Strome range.

    Best regards,

Although we hold Rocky's reputation highly here, some of us would point out that he is on his honeymoon and therefore unlikely to chime in.

I can't say as I have anything to add, it looks like you have a fine selection of products to choose from, I'll just remind you to post pics of your new acquisition when it is made.

I may be on my honeymoon, but I still keep an eye on you guys to make sure it doesn't get too rowdy up here. I'm too much of a busy body to relax for too long. Heck, I can check emails and XMARKS while floating in the pool at the condo!

Thank you for the kind words, Steve. I will admit to 'self promotion' in the USA Kilts Section, but generally refrain from self promotion in other forums, unless I'm asked a direct question about our wares. Individual members have their favorite companies and like to promote competitors and that's fine as well... but as a sponsor and a retailer, I feel that we must walk a line to keep things 'friendly'.

I hope to see this same kind of 'balance' struck by ALL advertisers on the forum, new old, large and small.

    [/soapbox]

Itessig... You're doing your homework, so you should be happy with whatever company you choose. Steve has partnered up with some very reputable companies as advertisers, so you will be 'taken care of' no matter where you go.

    My question is still, 'what do you want this kilt for'? Since I agree that the advertisers and sponsors all seem to be very knowledgeable and service oriented, the answer to that question will be the deciding factor. If I were in your position (and I almost am) I would consider;

    A. taking a single step forward and getting a PV Semitrad
    B. going for the real deal and deciding on a good wool tartan

I'm opting for B myself. Eight yards of worsted wool should contrast my PV Casual well.

Nice to see someone willing to do that. I thought that was a rule somewhere, but I could be wrong.

I mainly want the kilt that would suit both casual and formal/professional environments. I'm thinking about a St. Andrews tartan or something blue-ish.
