I know, for sure, many of my ancestors lived in Ireland, so I am rightfully flabbergasted, even though I can't look at the picture.
Now, if he were wearing velvet knee breeches like Oscar Wilde...

Ya gotta love the Internet. The photographer, Edmund Huther, died 1/14/1877 so this is a really olde pic.
Here's the full story of Johnny Patterson, the "Irish Singing Clown." He lived from 1840 to 1889.
