Buying A kilt in Scotland. Any suggesd retailers?

Two other contenders that I've used on many occasions for customers:

Depending on how soon before you travel, you don't need to wait to be measured. If you know what tartan you want then speak/email you preferred supplier and they will be able to get things organised. If you've 2-3 months before you leave then you may be able to collect your kilt when you're here.

I have been looking at different kiltmakers in Scotland. In Kirkcaldy, there is a John Morrison. It is only about an hour away from Edinburgh, so I could easily make a trip up there. The prices run about 750+ pounds, around $1,200, for their Prestige Prince Charlie Kilt Outfit. Does anyone know anything about them?

If you will EVER want a fly plaid, BUY it with the kilt.

You will have an EXACT match of color and texture.

First of all, congratulations. Next, be sure to visit the Walker Shortbread place in Aberlour and buy a big bag of broken biscuits. Maybe they will give you the cousin discount.

Now, about that fly plaid... It is little more than a length of fabric, pleated and pinned. By all means, do try to buy some extra yardage of the fabric your kilt is made of. I vote for Walker Hunting Modern, but do pay attention about ordering/ instock availability, etc. If you get a couple of yards of fabric, you can easily make and fake a fly plaid to wear to the wedding, then salvage or repurpose the yardage for other projects later on. But don't pay a lot of money for the thing over the fabric cost.

I believe fly plaids are worn for very dressy occasions and for posing for shortbread tin illustrations. Other than that, I believe their wear by civilians is entirely discretionary. Have fun!

I can think of so many nicer places in Scotland you might like to come and see rather than the horribly touristy cities of Inverness or Edinburgh. However if that is your choice so be it. Congratulations on overcoming the cancer and I will pray that you will forever remain free and in remission. Lochcarron of Selkirk or Andersons of Dumfries or TD9 Menswear of Hawick would be my personal recommendations if you want a kilt made for you.

I would love to visit other places in Scotland. But time restrictions are the main thing, since it is being paid for us. I hope to go to Scotland on my honeymoon and other times throughout my life. DO some hiking, etc. Hit the non tourist places.

I haven't but if it is the same as John Morrison of the High St, Edinburgh, then it is now part of the Gold Brothers Empire (who are HQ'd in Kirkaldy), albeit still a traditional bespoke part.

Geoffrey Tailor is pretty good. I'd also second the earlier recommendation of Celtic Craft Centre. I walked in on a visit and got a second-hand Robertson in 16 oz. for a great price. They altered it right there for me and were really great.
