Those arms have a very interesting crest - I don't think I've ever seen anything but a Hare playing a bagpipe (though I am fairly new at the whole heraldry thing).
Once again, you are a very, very lucky man to have such a generous and talented friend!

That is indeed a very handsome sporran!
But then again, you wear the entire outfit very well too. I always love to see your combinations. Allow me for a moment to digress from the sporran topic...
You appear to be wearing a natural colored collarless (linen?) shirt, brown-hued waistcoat, green jacket, red-tartaned kilt, blue hose, and brown/black leather accessories. This is definitely not "matchy matchy". And it all works together perfectly! I love it!
I'm particularly interested in the tartan ribbon you've used to tie your hose. I've not seen it tied over the outside of the turn-down, although I admit I haven't paid a whole lot of attention. I think it looks great, and adds a nice flair to the overall look!
I envy your style, Robert.

Thank you for your kind words.
Making the colours "echo each another", instead of matching, plus mixing textures, has always been sure signs of good taste.
I owe alot of it to this clever Forum. ith:

There was a sporran there somewhere? Seriously Robert, how can anyone match those surrounds for a backdrop. Congratulations on the fine new aquisition, and you wear it so well. The rest of your outfit is also superb.

Robert, that is a magnificent outfit, completed by your coat of arms on that fine sporran. My compliments to your nearly-blind friend.
Cygnus, the crest in that design is the bagpipe-playing angel on top of the helmet (which you can see in the drawing, but not so well in the photo).
People often use the word crest to indicate the whole coat of arms, but this is a mistake.
Regards,
Mike

Which is exactly what I was referring to - I was saying that in my limited experience with British heraldry, I'd never seen a bagpipe except when played by a hare, so the Angel with the pipes, even in another nation's heraldry, was a bit of a surprise for me!
