Leather purse straps (from a good neighbor) are a perfect sporran strap. Just cut to size and stitch the ends, and keep the fasteners which came with it. This one was an unused shoulder strap from a purse. Luggage also comes with extra straps people don't always use.

If you do choose leather, I would suggest a concho rather than a button.
