    You must be able to read the newer Excel files (*.xslx) to open the file in question. It isn't password protected and opens fine for me as well. Not sure what the "Do smallest" means though.

    I did finally get it to work. I HATE M/S and their blasted "Genuine Advantage". Ever since I ran the last security updates, Windows is insisting that a copy I've owned since 2005 isn't "genuine". I can only assume that "Genuine Advantage" is secret programming language for "Genuine P.I.T.A".

    Back O/T

    Great database Peter. I'm really looking forward to the articles this discovery will generate.

    Had to cheat a little there as Excel won't (or I cant't work out how to) put the 'o' in superscript.

    Do means the same as. I presume it was an shorthand for 'ditto'.

    As an aside, a lot of old documents write 'Mac' as Mc with underline 'c' in superscript. So in fact a deliberate shortening.

    Re-done the list in a different format that shows the total range. All the setts are from the latest find plus those additional patterns that are only in the Scott-Adie or Romanes & Patterson books.

    Unhappy

    I still haven't been able to open any of the pdf files that you've posted Peter...{sigh}

    One of these days I hope to figure it out.

    I had much better luck with the pdf file, thanks. Would love to see a photo of the priest sett, and some of the fancy patterns!

    Here's Priest and the Fancys I have to hand plus Austin which shows how it too started as a small Fancy type sett.

    Priest (this is Wilsons' Lavender)

    This does look very similar to the pattern book I have photographed. The Austin looks the same.

    On the Priest tartan, is that green or just a trick of my monitor?
