I made a Lobster kilt pleated to the lobster for a fun kilt contest on the ocean in Maine.
my boyfriend wore it with a bait bag for a sporran. It came out great for being thin cotton but since the lobsters were randomly all over a black background it was asymmetrical and I wound up buying so much material my little "Joke" cost me about $60
to make. It would work for a casual day in the office fun but if you want to get more wear from it Alan's idea seems best.

    Janellrs,

Is this the sort of thing you are asking about?

I made this kilt from a light weight Cotton print fabric by Zig Zane provide by the customer.

I first cut the fabric into sections width-wise. This was due to a couple of reasons. The Customer asked for the pattern to be horizontal and the pattern ran width-wise.

This is hand printed fabric so the pattern is not as exact as that done on a large printing machine. This caused slight variations in the pattern so I could not align up a 'Sett'.

The fabric is also very light. About 4 - 4.5 oz. Perfect for Hawaii where this customer lives.

This kilt has 2 Side Slash Pockets.

    I wear the kilt because:

Another idea would be to go with upholstery fabric. It's pretty substantial, usually a polyester blend so it would hold a pleat well, and you can find it in pretty much any fabric store. There are some prints out there that are flowery but would look plenty masculine in kilt form.

    These are Joann Fabrics ones

    Steve,
There be a reason they call you Wizard! Love this kilt! Something to put on my "wish" list.
