Yes Ron thanks for pointing out the logical response...I will do that tomorrow. My line of thinking so far is to dress more up than down. Like Tobus and nighthawk said, better to be overdressed than under....
    Thanks for all the responses.
Oh the party is at a upscale resturant/bar/hotel, at night of course
So regardless of what I wear I will have pictures, cuz it didn't happen if you didn't have pictures....

Company dress policies are to set a 'minimum' level of acceptable attire. I've never heard of a policy saying "suits are not appropriat attire" (accept where they are, of course... warehouse, construction, where uniform is required, etc.)

Our company (California companies are very concerned about sexual harassment and hostile environment lawsuits) is very specific about what can be worn by whom, and when. But those are always minimums. You are always allowed to dress nicer than the stipulated code.

My company party i on the 17th. I get to run home, get cleaned up and come back into town. I will be wearing my kilt with black hose, black shirt and tie. Topped off with my argyll. Everyone is used to seeing me in a kilt at the parties. There are a few new people that hve not seen me in the kilt. I intend to hve fun no matter what others say.

I suggest a Christmas bowtie with flashing lights. Bonus points if it spins. ;)

Kidding! Though I do have a few Christmas and winter-y ties, none of them flash or spin. Really. I promise.

My dad has one that flashes... He has a flair for the rediculous and pulls it off with amazing panache...

Sounds like those with pants will likely be wearing jeans or khakis, with either polo shirts or sweaters, and kitsch is acceptable.

Personally I would go just a hair more formal, and go with a dress shirt, vest and a bright red/green themed tie...and lack (or inclusion) of kitsch is a personal choice. You could always put jingle bells on the ends of your garters .

IE wear the jacket & vest, and leave the jacket in the coat check.

I have a pair of Christmas boxers with bells on the crotch that jingle when I walk. Does that count as kitsch?

Yes. Very cute, very kitschy, Nighthawk.

Lets get you in a pair of reindeer antlers, too.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Only if you're showing them to people, which I guess would require lifting the front of the kilt at them, and jiggling...er...jingling...at them.

...Which would be hilarious, by the way. If you do this, let me know, so I can get their reactions on video.

Too late... There's a guy at Tandy Leather who once asked me what I wear under my kilt. On International Make Someone Uncomfortable Day, I went to Tandy wearing those boxers and said to him "Here's the answer to your question!" I whipped my kilt up to my face. He just about passed out, and the other two employees just about fell over laughing. (Small point here- this guy and I get along really well. I was totally just playing around with him and it was not at all an aggressive thing! )
