Of course most of us are disappointed that we didn't win, but I'm sure I can speak for many of us in saying that starting out with a really good kilt will save you some of the painful explorations and disappointments of lesser garments. Oh yes, nearly any kilt is a step up from p@n+$, but not every kilt is equal, as you will no doubt discover.
Congrats & welcome!
EPITAPH: Decades from now, no one will know what my bank balance looked like, it won't matter to anyone what kind of car I drove, nor will anyone care what sort of house I lived in. But the world will be a different place, because I did something so mind bafflingly eccentric that my ruins have become a tourist attraction.

If you end up with the same 13oz Allen 1996 from Dalgleish that I got, you should be very pleased, as it makes up into a nice looking kilt. You and i may be the only ones out there wearing it but we will wear it with pride. Congratulations. Can't wait to see your pics.
Due to some 17th century West Virginia hillbilly inbreeding in my family background I have more Allen blood in my veins than Foster/Forrester----three consecutive generations of my Foster ancestors married Allen women, all of whom were related to each other either as niece or first cousins, making at least one of those marriages between double first cousins.
Funny that we will have probably the only two kilts in that tartan in the country and live only an hour or so away from each other. Perhaps we will run into each other at one of the local games sometime.

Jeff,
Wanna know something weird?? Late last summer, I googled "Allen 1996 tartan" and found a picture and printed it off. I wanted to see what the kilt would look like and ...You are in the pic...and we may be related...how crazy is that??? Do you have any Abige, Bige, Roady, America's in your family tree from Indiana or Kentucky???

As I said our two Allens will probably be the only two in common existence, although somebody had to have it woven for registration, so there might be a couple more around. It is not exactly surprising that you found mine probably from my kilt review posted here. I have worn it several times but no pics.
My Allens were from the western part of Virginia, what is now West Virginia, and stuck up in the southern hills, although some of them may have gotten out and come west in the 1900s. Don't know of any specifically though. Sorry but none of those names rings any particular geneological bells.

Hi, MJ, and congratulations.
I also had my eye on the prize kilt, but my wife decided against sending money overseas – she reckoned it would be a waste.
And that was after I pointed out that it would cost less per month (if I took a $5 ticket each month) than her Lotto tickets, which have never won her anything more than three figures (of South African money, that is).
Maybe I will have better luck this year – I expect Matt will have a similar raffle again, and then there is Nick Fiddes’s Scotweb promotion, too.
Yours in good fortune,
Mike

Thanks for the kind words...I'm a Mike too...Maybe you should try making your own kilt. I made one for me. It's not perfect, but it works.
