At least I had on a red tartan. Bled well. Last night was no fun, the one deeper hole from something was shooting out a cattle prod-like neuropathy pain intermitantly...seems healed up this morning. Road rash.

In all my years of practicing martial arts (25+), the most useful self-defence move I have ever learned is the "break-fall." It's what allows people in grappling arts like judo and aikido to be thrown on the ground and get right back up.
I've used break-falls in several incidents involving ice on the ground and managed to avoid cuts or bruises!

I wish! I'm 66 years olde and was being most careful in my navigation - but one moment I was stanging up, the next moment the elevator went down and I was kneeling...and bleeding a bit...able to stand back up and endure...no biggie...
Still - had that "what happened??" feeling.
Wonder what would have happened had I been wearing pantz? Torn them, or protect my knees?
Never too olde to look silly. At least the kilt stayed put and didn't answer the question for anyone.

Ron, glad to hear you're okay. You're right, we're never too old to look silly.
The last time that happened to me, I was carrying our Christmas tree up the front steps, the next thing I knew I was under the tree, fortunately I wasn't hurt (years of judo paid off again.) My son came around the corner of the garage and asked what had happened. My response was, I didn't know since I had only just arrived on the scene myself. Yeah,...it didn't get a laugh from him either.

Ouch! Sorry to see that. Lots of ice in Flag too but haven't had that misfortune (yet). And...it is lucky you were wearing a kilt to match the blood (LOL)

I fell flat on my back twice over the weekend during a curling tournament. I'm rather glad I was not kilted at the time.

Mandolin slicers...

I tell ya...those things are dangerous. One morning I was slicing 'taters to fry up for breakfast and took my fingertip clear off...which in and of itself didn't feel good. Then I had the bright idea of trying to apply "liquid skin" to cover up the raw tip and stop the bleeding. Advice for anybody else that ever has occasion to try something similar...DON'T!!! I burned so bad it brought tears to my eyes and almost put me on my knees!!!
PS...Ron...hope you recover quickly and suffer no ill effects.

When I first saw the title to your post that's exactly what I pictured -a story about the kilt flying up around your ears.
The other icy morning I was clearing ice off my windshield when I forgot to look down and my shin came in contact with the tongue on my 4X6 trailer. I was wearing pantz put no matter, I still got a nice gouge in my skin and with no harm to the fabric. It hurt like hec. I think I was too cold to bleed. And I was wondering what would have happened if I was wearing my kilt.
Ron, I hope your recovery is speedy. Wear kilts during the process so as not to irritate the wound.

To quote a well known Monty Python character that's just a flesh wound
Years ago my father, whom was a daily kilt wearer, was cycling to work one winter's morning and set off down a small hill that, he realised too late, was covered in black ice. He and the cycle quickly parted company and he made a solo toboggan descent. Result - well you can probably imagine. It wasn't smooth tarmac and he never breached What a sight and very sore for a few days. Caused much amusement amongst the family and always a good story for parties
Sincerely though, glad you weren't badly hurt.
