I get to look at this mini-castle whenever I go to the train station to make a run downtown:

I've been inside...it's a bit of a dump (and I don't mean that in a nice, castle-y way!).

From what I've been reading, that happened to a few of my Irish ancestors !
They eventually got even though ...they married into that Norman family !
What's that they say about inlaws and outlaws ?

Can't let this thread go on without representing the Left Coast's versions:
Hearst Castle (part of the story behind Citizen Kane)
Scotty's Castle
"Castles" in name only but still interesting places.
Proudly Duncan [maternal], MacDonald and MacDaniel [paternal].

Came across this site looking for more on the castle that was at the tip of Sands Point.
http://www.dupontcastle.com/castles/index.htm#ny
In doing so I was reminded of a bit of "castle coincidence", the Castle Gould I worked in many years ago, was said to be a style copied from Castle Kilkenny in Ireland.
In researching a branch of my family history, I recently learned that Castle Kilkenny was built on part of my ancestral lands.
Across a few centurys and a few thousand miles of ocean,... what are the odds ?

And, if a bit of side tracking can be forgiven, they both have an "East Coast" connection.
Death Valley Scotty owned a few Franklin autos. He and his Franklins were used in some of Franklin's advertising about how their aircooled cars wouldn't overheat even in extreamly high temps of Death Valley . Stories about he and his Franklins (and some about his castle) have been written up in the Franklin Club publication.
And Hearst bought Marion Davies a 1930 Franklin "Pursuit" touring car. The car was saved by the former head mechanic of the Beverly Hills Franklin dealership and still survives, once again back here in NY.

And here's a listing of castles in Canada. I'd have never guessed there were so many.

There's a nice castle in the Texas Hill Country called Falkenstein Castle;

It is a private home, but they host some weddings and other events there.
